Wil Lindsay
Class of 2007

Photo of Wil Lindsay

Wil Lindsay's work focuses on the implications of re-contextualizing dead or forgotten technologies in contemporary culture. Current works include the Stray Technologies project: a creation of technological artifacts that support the possibility of alternate historical paths through our cultural memory. His work is presented through various modalities including installation, imaging, video, music, physical electronics and algorithmic processing.

Wil's inspiration and skill-set is derived from a mostly anachronistic career path that has included such pursuits as blacksmithing, leather-working, carriage-driving, chimney-sweeping, and selling bobbles at Renaissance festivals. This, coupled with a BFA in Media Arts from the University of Arizona, three years as a videographer for the Tucson PBS affiliate, and over fifteen years of photography presented through both analog and digital manipulation, have lead to the current state of affairs in his work. Late at night, he can often be found listening to indecipherable blips and buzzing on one of his shortwave radios.
