Joshua Thorson
Ph.D.

Joshua Thorson produces conceptual narrative video-films that explore the nature of narrativity (the processes by which information is conveyed on the screen and how it is interpreted by the viewer). The stories are most often comprised of events taken from the news that have been manipulated into fiction or, conversely, that strategically integrate fiction into new social contexts.

He has also designed video projections for several innovative theatrical productions, has edited dance videos for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company with Charles Atlas, has curated several video programs, and is the editor of the magazine Art Fancy. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, The New Museum, Rotterdam International Film Festival, the MIX Festival, and Cinema Texas, among others.

Joshua studied Cultural Studies and Film Studies at the University of Minnesota and received his MFA from Bard College in Film/Video.
